Religion "or" Faith

People seem to use religion and faith synonymously but in fact I feel the former is the consequence of the latter. Whenever I want to trace back the origins of a religion or the cause of why religion came into existence, it seems to converge at one basic factor "a strong need for faith".
At the very beginning when man was like any other animal, he would hunt and gather food and live in caves, undoubtably for me he never even thought of god at that point of time. But at the time of need or at a crucial juncture there had to be one person who could be relied upon this could have been the leader of the group. They soon realised that even their leader can falter and couldnt be completely relied upon, hence there was a need to look elsewhere for such faith and source of strength.

As human brain and his perception became complex and his understanding of the environment grew he realised that there are too many things that seem out of control and hazardous. He knew to survive he needed a lot of skills and a lot of "luck". And these were the seeds that were sown to create the conception of god. At some point this concept of all powerful and all knowing being whom he contrived maybe even thought existed in some place, as he must have seen that different people exhibit different levels of skills and knowledge.

Even this myth might have been taken a blow as he never found that person, but since it was always a source of strength and inspiration he couldnt possibly give up on the belief or the search that such an absolute individual never existed.
Even in relatively recent times when kings used to rule a nation and the entire responsibility from the well being of his subjects to their security needs was upto the him. But at times when the king would turn out to be incompetent or a tyrant, He would turn to god for help and comfort.

Somehow I strongly believe this is the way religion could have come into existence, and hence the essence of it is an undying faith, unending repository of inspiration. And it also gave man a sense of security that someone out there knows everything there is to know.
